Lee Rickles is the Director and CIO of Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, Interweave Digital, and Yorkshire & Humber Care Record. A BCS Fellow, FEDIP Leading Practitioner, and CHIME-certified Health CIO, he has 30 years of experience in transformation and programme management, including 20 years in NHS digital transformation. He leads the Yorkshire & Humber Care Record and Secure Data Environment, serves as SRO for mental health digital transformation, and holds roles on the PRSB advisory board, National ICS Digital Council, and Interoperability Advisory Group. He is also Vice Chair of the Northern, Yorkshire, and Humberside Digital Informatics Forum.

I am the Chief Nursing Information Officer for Health Innovation Manchester and NHS GM (ICB). Leading the digital agenda for Nursing & Midwives across the Greater Manchester system, working with providers in primary, secondary, community and social care.
I am a registered nurse with a clinical background in neonatal nursing, previously working in Neonatal units across Cheshire and Mersey and for the Neonatal Regional Transport team in a Senior Management/Leadership role. Then moving to a Senior Corporate Nursing role for quality & patient safety. Throughout my career I have held many posts ranging from staff nurse, ward manager and matron through to the role of Chief Nursing Informatics Officer. I have been a CNIO in 4 organisations, supporting and leading the process of digitising Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health professionals in pre and post Electronic Patient Record go lives and beyond, enabling nurses to have an equal voice in the digital arena, ensuring that information systems support nursing and allow more time for patient care, thereby reducing risk and improving quality and safety.

In my role as Chief Nursing Informatics Officer, I have participated and supported digital programmes for nurses locally, regionally and at national level. I have been responsible for strategic and operational nursing leadership in the development, deployment, re-engineering, optimisation and integration of clinical information systems to support nursing and patient care.

Theresa was a ward sister at St. Marks Hospital London before joining the Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 1991 as a CNS in Stoma Care. Terri worked at the Homerton as a Nurse Consultant and was Clinical Director of the North East London Bowel Cancer Screening Centre.

Terri led the development of www.apollonursingresource.com, an online resource to enable specialist nurses to articulate the value of their role and amplify the voice of specialist nurses. Terri is co-founder of The Academy of Fab Stuff www.fabnhsstuff.net a portal for sharing QI and service innovations.

Dr Paul Rice joined Bradford and Airedale NHS Foundation Trusts from his role as Regional Director of Digital Transformation for NHS England and NHS Improvement in the North East and Yorkshire.

He leads on the delivery of digital programmes across both organisations and at Place within our Act as One Programme. This work includes driving forward Airedale’s ambition as a Digital Aspirant to secure an enterprise wide Electronic Patient Record (EPR), updating and improving the infrastructure, networks and cyber resilience of both organisations and leading major digital system upgrades, including Laboratory Imaging Systems (LIMs). He is committed to programmes of inclusive digital transformation and passionate about diversifying the skills base and creating professional career opportunities for current and future digital and data workforces. He is also a firm believer in information technology being a means to an end not an end in itself.

He has been the senior responsible owner for substantial national digital transformation programmes relevant to hospital EPRs, mental health, transforming primary care, maternal and child health. He was the Programme Director for the Global Digital Exemplar Programme and has previously supported the NHS to deliver the first common national baseline of organisational “Digital Maturity” and key digital planning documents – Local Digital Roadmaps.

Paul was formerly the Director of the Long-Term Conditions programme in Yorkshire and Humber with a focus on Telehealth. He has also been a Primary Care Trust Director, a Transformation Director in the NHS Modernisation Agency and a policy lead in the Department of Health. He has published and spoken widely on the challenges and opportunities to deliver new service models using assistive technology/telehealth/information technology.

Paul holds a BA degree in Law and Accounting (Manchester), a Masters in Informatics Leadership (Imperial) and a Doctorate in Medical Law and Bioethics (Manchester). He is also a graduate of the Said Business School (Oxford), where he completed the Major Projects Leadership Academy, a Fellow of the British Computing Society and a member of the national CIO Advisory Board. He is a trustee of Yorkshire Cancer Research and a volunteer fundraiser with Macmillan Cancer Support. He is married to Heather, the father of three children and while a native of Belfast, has lived in Yorkshire for over 20 years.

Rachael has a passion for making patient’s care, and their journeys, transparent. Her goal is to make patient information available for clinicians and nursing staff, to ensure the best possible care and decisions are made for patients.

This session will explore how we can most effectively address key challenges, including shifting from treatment to prevention, acute care to community care, and analogue processes to digital solutions. As we reimagine the NHS for the future with a foundation rooted in digital innovation, it is vital to reflect on what currently works well in the digital space and how to adopt and leverage these successes. Closing keynote panel - Workforce empowerment in the digital age

Mr Graham Walsh is both a Specialist Knee Surgeon working at the Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust and also the Medical Director at Health Innovation Yorkshire and Humber.

Graham studied medicine at University College Medical School in London before moving back to his native Yorkshire where he has been a Consultant Knee Surgeon at Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust (CHFT) since 2009. He continues to work clinically and works with national teams, to improve joint arthroplasty pathways. Clinically his team has won many healthcare awards for their pathway transformation work.

He joined the HIYH having been an Associate Medical Director at CHFT where he was also the Chief Clinical Information Officer overseeing digital transformation and innovation. He is a strong advocate for the use of technology in healthcare seeing it as an enabler to improve patient care and outcomes and recognises the importance of the patient’s involvement with transformation.

He also has as a clinical advisory role to NHSE including the FDP and Interoperability groups and works with both industry and Independent healthcare organisations.

Graham Walsh

Phil was appointed Chief Executive in February 2023. Prior to this he was Chief Medical Officer for the Trust and Deputy Chief Executive.

He joined Leeds Teaching Hospitals in 2002 as a Consultant Immunologist and during his career Phil has worked in many operational and strategic roles including Clinical Director for services such as Pathology and Oncology and Medical Director for Strategy and Planning. He has been a champion and advocate of a continuous improvement approach to healthcare, working with the Virginia Mason Institute over the past decade to help develop the Trust’s improvement system, the Leeds Improvement Method.

Phil has held several regional roles including as Senior Responsible Officer for the initial Covid-19 vaccination programme in West Yorkshire. He is committed to partnership working across health and care systems, and currently co-chairs the West Yorkshire Cancer Alliance. A continued passionate advocate for the role of research and innovation in improving outcomes and reducing inequalities in healthcare, he is Chair of the Northeast & Yorkshire Genomic Medicine Service Board, a member of the NHS England National Genomics Board and a director and board member at the Northern Health Science Alliance.

An Honorary Professorship in Healthcare Leadership from the University of Leeds was awarded in November 2022, recognising Phil’s leadership contribution across education and training, research, innovation and improvement. He is the chair of the Leeds Academic Health Partnership and a member of the NHS IMPACT National Improvement Board.

Shauna is currently the Chief Information Officer & Executive Board member at Northern Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG) and in April 2022 accepted a Joint CIO with Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTH). She has over 15 yrs. experience working in the Canadian Healthcare system and relocated to the UK in late 2015 to join Frimley Health as their CIO. She then joined South Central & West CSU as a Partner in Digital Transformation Consulting and in Nov. 2020 joined NLaG. She has held varied leadership roles including Director of Technology & Infrastructure Renewal at a District Health Authority in Canada. Shauna has provided leadership for IT infrastructure, facility planning & construction, commercial leasing, capital planning and clinical engineering, digital solutions and health information across 8 hospitals and 26 community health care centres. Prior to joining Healthcare, she has worked in Banking and the Human Resources sector. Shauna is passionate about the positive impact digital transformation can have in the health and care system. As a leader she is grounded in the belief that healthy relationships with people are key to success, in combination with a positive attitude to lead and coach teams to achieve and exceed results and targeted deliverables. This in combination with attention to continuous learning and professional development she believes are critical components of being a successful Leader.

Shaukat Ali Khan is the Executive CDIO and Board Member of the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, driving healthcare modernisation for 2.4 million residents. He oversees the Digital, Data, and Technology Directorate, ensuring operational efficiency and robust IT support for over 100,000 users. With over 20 years of international experience spanning healthcare, education, and more, Shaukat has held senior roles at the Aga Khan University, Novo Nordisk, UNICEF and Lockheed Martin. A Harvard-certified leader with a master’s in computer science, he has earned 50+ awards, hosted global conferences, and is a recognised thought leader in IT, innovation, and digital transformation.

With a background in engineering, Nicola has successfully led large-scale, complex change initiatives, often digitally enabled, to drive improvements and transformation across the public sector, including integrated care systems. She has served as a Chief Information Officer in NHS and policing, and participated on several national technology councils. Currently, she balances her public appointments, which include serving on the boards of NHS foundation trusts and social housing associations, with her role as a strategic advisor to the health tech industry. Nicola also has lived experience as a carer, and frequently brings that perspective to her thought leadership around whole person-centric care, health and social care integration and health inequalities.

Dr Cordelle Ofori

Cordelle is the Director of Public Health for Manchester City Council. She qualified as a doctor from the University of Nottingham in 2001, and went on to train and practice as a GP before specialising in public health medicine. Her first-hand experience of the realities of health inequalities as a GP, and her work with charities in the past inspired her passion for improving health equity. She has a special interest in race health equity and improving health for marginalised communities.

She leads work to protect and improve the health of residents in the city of Manchester using data and evidence, and working with the organisations, agencies and sectors that have an impact on people’s health. This includes the development and delivery of ‘Making Manchester Fairer’, the city’s ambition to tackle the unfair and preventable differences in health between different groups of people. The plan focuses on the foundations of good health such as giving children and young people the best start, community power, and reducing the impact of poverty, racism and discrimination on people’s health.

Trust in tech: how patients are influencing digital health innovation in GM

Laura is an experienced healthcare leader and communications professional, with extensive experience across the NHS, digital and life sciences industries. She is currently Director of Strategy, overseeing health Innovation Manchester’s strategic priorities across the research and innovation portfolio, working closely with the rest of the executive team, staff, key stakeholders and partners. Her broad portfolio includes strategy and planning, innovation pipeline curation, user-led design and public engagement, programme assurance, organisational development, stakeholder engagement and partnerships, and strategic communications.

Laura has spent 15 years working in senior roles across the NHS in Greater Manchester, both in commissioning and provider organisations, and prior to that worked in corporate agencies specialising in business to business PR. She has a wealth of experience in managing complex and sensitive issues, strategy development and delivery, media relations and corporate affairs.

She enjoys using creative processes to see things differently and elicit new ideas and concepts towards solving problems, as well as encouraging success and creativity in others through positive leadership, inclusion, and coproduction.
